Finding out whats really inside

Mastering the craft of the PC technician requires you to learn a lot of details about the many pieces of hardware and software in the typical PC. Even the most basic PC contains many discrete components, each with its own set of characteristics, shapes, sizes, colours, connections and so on.

Students follow a course of study which prepares them for the A+ professioal PC exams. They also receive hands on experience in setting up and modifying computer equipment. Pentium 4 motherboard for this years project click for larger image

Adding a dvd player

This year's design consisted of;

  • E2160DCprocessor
  • 1 GB SSDRAM
  • 1 x 80GB SATA hard drives
  • 1 x DVD x 16 player
  • Windows XP PRO operating system

A student who is a games enthusiast said;

"It was not only interesting and cheaper to build my own machine but the buzz from seeing it work for the first time and knowing it was all my own work was really something else."

As part of the networks course students will configure and build several network systems, starting with simple peer to peer systems and progressing to sophisticated client server configurations. This work is complemented by the study of modern computer operating systems.
