Advanced Cert in Microelectronics and Computing


Course Description

Students study in greater detail the areas of instrumentation and robots. Each student will design, build and test their own embedded control system. This will include printed circuit board fabrication and construction. They will investigate the implementation of input devices, display units, sensors, motors, relays, solenoids and use their control system to implement these applications. Other essential areas of study are modern data communications and the installation and maintenance of computer networks.

Career prospects / progression

Graduates of this level 6 award are ideally placed to fulfill the requirements of the electronics, IT and telecommunications industries, all of which have identified large- scale shortages in Ireland


Certification

Students who successfully complete this course achieve a FETAC Level 6 Award in Microelectronics and Computing (CETXX)

This course provides an alternate path, through the advanced entry scheme to the second year of many engineering courses at third level.


Entry Requirements

Students should have completed a FETAC Level 5 in Microelectronics and Computing (CELTX) or equivalent.
