TENNIS COACHING CERTIFICATE (Tennis Ireland) AND CERTIFICATE IN RECREATION STUDIES (FETAC)

Course Description

The course aims to provide students with the coaching and management skills to meet the ever increasing demand for coaching in clubs, schools and colleges through the Tennis Ireland Coaching Certificate.

Also, in addition to the Tennis Ireland coaching award, students can now achieve a Full Fetac Award in Sport and Recreation Studies This pathway through the Fetac Links scheme can lead students to a choice of Sports/Health related Degrees in many colleges( See below).

The core aspects of the course are delivered by Pete Lowther, a Tennis Ireland coach and former international player with vast national, international and club experience. Peter has coached the Irish national squad in International and Federation Cup competitions.

For those who wish to take the Tennis Coaching only these sessions are timetabled in 3 hour blocks over 3 days for the convenience of students.

The Options are:

Tennis Coaching Certificate (Tennis Ireland) Level 1

or

A full Fetac Level 5 Award in Sports and Recreational Studies (DSRXX) which includes the Tennis Coaching Certificate (Tennis Ireland) Level 1


Course Content

1. TENNIS IRELAND LEVEL 1
This is a full programme including full tuition in Mini tennis, Midi tennis and Full Court tennis.

Mini Tennis: Mini tennis Progressions, Communications, Safety Skills

• Midi tennis: Midi tennis Progressions, Role of the coach, Coaching Philosophy, Teaching Methods, Teaching styles

• Full Court Tennis: Full court Technical and Tactical capacities, Class Organization, Injury Prevention/First Aid, The Business of Tennis Coaching.

Career prospects / progression

Graduates easily secure employment as Tennis Ireland coaches part-time and full-time in the many local and private tennis clubs in the metropolitan area and throughout Ireland. It is envisaged that students who choose Degree courses on completion of this course are well placed to pick up coaching assignments in the Colleges they have selected or in clubs in the surrounding area.

Certification

1. Students who complete the Tennis Ireland Programme successfully will receive the;
Tennis Ireland Level 1 Coaching Certificate

2. Candidates who complete the FETAC Award will achieve a;
FETAC Level 5 Award in Sport and Recreation Studies
