Course Description

This course is designed to train students in all aspects of technology in the security industry. The practical element of this course provides students with the experience to survey, cable and install security and CCTV equipment. They also acquire a detailed knowledge of general electronics and security procedures. Students do a two-week work placement with a reputable security firm during the second term. Successful graduates of this course are eligible to apply for a licence as specified by the Private Security Services Act 2004.

Career prospects / progresssion

To maximise career opportunities graduates can progress to the Advanced Certificate in Security and Electronics Systems or the Diploma in Security Business Management in the college. Graduates are highly employable within the security technology industry. They can also progress to third level through the Higher Links Scheme.

 

Certification

Students who successfully complete the course are awarded a FETAC Level 5 award in Security Systems Technology (CSSTX) and a certificate from the Security Institute of Ireland. Graduates can then apply to the Private Security Authority of Ireland for a licence.
